On Sunday 5th July 2009, over 60,000 sangat gathered to commemorate and pay respect to the countless Sikhs who gave up their lives or endured unspeakable hardships in various campaigns for justice and rights. It is because of their sacrifices that we exist today and can practice our faith with respect and dignity. All Shaheeds of the Panth from Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji to the modern times were remembered and acknowledged for their contribution to the struggles.
East Midlands Council of Gurdwara's would like to thank all the Sangat, the Gurdwara's, Sikh organisations and others who helped in making this event a tremendous success in which around 60,000 people gathered to pay respects to the great Shaheeds of the Panth.
